Caregivers, you can participate in Medicare Fraud Prevention Week by teaching yourself and your clients or loved ones how to prevent and detect health care fraud, errors, and abuse.

Be on the lookout for things like boxes of knee braces (known as durable medical equipment, or DME) lying around the house. This is a common scam and may mean your client or loved one has been a victim.

To report potential Medicare fraud, contact the local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) for help.

For more information or to speak with your local SHIP (State Health Insurance) Counselor contact: 1-888-696-7213 or visit www.shiphelp.org.

In the San Luis Valley Colorado area contact: Michelle Phillips-SHIP/SMP Coordinator at South-Central Colorado Seniors Inc., your local Area Agency on Aging at (719) 589 4511 or visit our website: www.slvaaa.org.
